Summary:
The Engineering Manager organizes, plans, and leads a skilled team of design and project engineers in the support, design and development of new and/or modified company products in accordance with customer specifications, established company engineering policies, and government/industry standards.  The manager is responsible for the technical aspects of new and legacy aerospace products within an assigned segment of business operations.  The manager is also responsible for leading (the engineering team) and supporting the cross-functional teams.


Position Overview:
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain overall technical ownership/authority and lead the team engaged in the design and development of company products in accordance with customer requirements, specifications, and company policies.
  • Facilitate the communication and interaction among both internal and external stakeholders by advocating and fostering cross-functional teamwork using team-based management and leadership concepts.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and manage activities and provide technical guidance to the team in the design and development of new products (or improve of legacy products). Ensure that the goals, objectives, and deliverables of each program/project are accomplished. Strong bias in execution of the company’s product development process.
  • Ability to identify project/program risks and communicate project/program goals and requirements to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Review, analyze, interpret, and lead the technical and administrative requirements.
  • Participate in activities to enhance the engineering department efficiency and productivity with a focus on improving product development timeline. This may include conducting technical studies to develop improved engineering techniques, processes, policies, and standards in areas such as the design process, documentation, testing, fabrication methodology, and transfer to production.
  • Responsible for supporting the sale and marketing of company products as well as analyzing customer requirements, providing special technical analyses, and resolving special customer problems and requirements. In addition, work closely with the cross-functional team and customers to develop innovative, cost effective, and producible product design solutions.
  • Determine the direction of highly complex design solutions and make decisions on standard and complex design approaches.
  • Review, analyze, interpret, and lead the technical and administrative requirements contained in requests for information (RFI) and/or requests for proposal (RFP) to prepare material used in the preparation of formal responses. In addition, identify and support publishing of program tasks and prepare associated cost estimates.
  • Build and lead a dynamic team and set the pace and example as a leader of the organization.  Provide employee coaching, mentoring, and training and development to further build and strengthen the culture of the team.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, and provide recommendations on personnel placement, discipline, and wage increases.
  • Support the development of long and short-term goals and objectives within the engineering department and ensure they are aligned with the overall company goals and objectives.
  • Identify new and/or opportunistic applications and ideas in addition to cultivating relationships with current and target customers. Create innovative and proprietary technology and product platforms using focused resources and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Prepare, support, and/or lead internal/external audits.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 8 years of product design/engineering experience and/or a minimum of 5 years of project/engineering management experience (engineering management experience supervising technical professional).
  • Must be a committed team player (and leader) and be a strong advocate for and actively foster cross-functional teamwork (concurrent engineering) within the engineering team and company.
  • Experience in aerospace and/or medical industry is preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office products (including Microsoft Project) and 3D CAD/CAE (knowledge of Solidworks is preferred)
  • Knowledge/experience of PDM or equivalent is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience of configuration management is a plus.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000
