Position Summary
The Sr. Design Engineer will direct the detailed design, testing, and development of electromechanical mechanisms/components and systems as used on commercial and military aviation equipment. The individual will make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activities. At this level, individuals will have demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Proven ability to apply engineering processes and procedures to systems from concept definition, product development, and into certification and production
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert providing technical expertise throughout a project’s lifecycle including design, engineering, configuration, test planning/development, test execution/analysis and sustaining engineering
- Work with product team members to identify and mitigate development risks and provide input on development plans
- Integrate new technology, techniques, and concepts to enhance functionality, simplify designs, improve reliability, and reduce production costs
- Work closely and cross-functionally with the internal product team to review product designs and manufacturability
- Perform engineering analyses (stress, material compatibility, safety, etc.) and troubleshoot design issues
- Interface directly with the customer to establish requirements and performance criteria
- Plan and schedule own work and support the work of others to meet assignment requirements within schedule and budget
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required, Master’s Degree preferred
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience with mechanical devices, electromechanical mechanisms, hydraulic or pneumatic systems used on commercial and/or military aviation equipment
- Preferably more than 10 years’ experience in mechanical design and development
- Must possess analytical skills, critical thinking, passion for attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills; ability to present ideas with impact and make compelling presentations
- Flexible and adaptive; able to explore many ideas simultaneously
- Demonstrated design and implementation experience utilizing a wide range of materials (metals, plastics) and manufacturing processes (metal/plastic molding, welding, material forming, machining, casting, etc.)
- Engineering analytical skills in the areas of machine design, dynamics of mechanical systems, and fluid mechanics
- Understanding of detailed drawing standards and geometric tolerancing
- Advanced CAD modeling skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability for occasional travel domestically and internationally

Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000
